Hello Falconridge Families,

We’ve certainly felt the chill this week, with temperatures dropping below freezing! As a reminder, when the temperature reaches -20°C or lower, we keep students inside for recess to ensure their safety and comfort.

Looking ahead, we may have some milder days that allow for outdoor recess, so please remember to dress your child in weather-appropriate clothing. Layers, hats, mittens, and warm boots are all essential during these winter months.

Also, please note that Falconridge School will be closed from February 13 to February 17 for the Teachers' Convention and the Family Day holiday. We hope everyone enjoys this time with family and friends.

Please read on for important updates and reminders.

Morning School Timing Reminder

A reminder that school doors are opened at 8:15 am every day for soft entry. Students that are not in the breakfast program are asked to not arrive until this time as we do not have morning childcare or supervision. If you need to drop off your child early occasionally, please inform the office and we will allow them to wait inside with the breakfast program students. This is only for occasional situations and not every day.

School Council Update

Falconridge has a strong parent population and would like to expand parents that attend our School Council meetings. Parent Council is an integral part of the school experience as it allows our community to come together and make decisions about school decisions. Whether joining the executive or just attending the meetings as an interested parent, all are welcome.

This past week, we had to postpone the parent council meeting due to inclement weather. Our rescheduled meeting will be Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30pm in the Falconridge School Learning Commons.

Kindergarten Registration

Registering your child for school for the first time is an exciting milestone and we look forward to welcoming our newest Falcons in the 2024-2025 school year! Starting Jan.13, 2025, registration for kindergarten students opened for the 2025-26 school year.

Is My Child Old Enough to Attend School?

For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten in September 2025, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2025.

Provincial Achievement Tests – Grade 6

In May and June of this year, Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs).

For the 2024/25 school year, the Grade 6 PAT in Science will not be administered. However, the Grade 6 Social Studies PAT will continue to be offered, aligning with the current Grade 6 Social Studies curriculum. The Grade 6 Mathematics and English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL) PATs will be administered, reflecting the new curriculum.

Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6.

Provincial Achievement Tests are based on what students have been learning throughout the school year, so they will be marked by teachers before they are returned to Alberta Education in June.

Grade 1 Assembly

Each month at Falconridge School, our grades host an assembly so that we can celebrate learning and build school spirit. This month our Grade 1s are hosting a learning assembly on February 26 at 10:00 AM. Grade 1 families can reach out to their child's teacher for details and if they are interested in attending.

Reminder: Report Cards are available for viewing

Families can view, download or print online report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 students until May 30, 2025 through your MyCBE account.
