Falconridge Newsletter | October 6, 2024
Hello Falconridge Families,
Over the past two weeks, Falconridge School students enjoyed participating in the Terry Fox Run and Orange Shirt Day. These are important days for all students to learn about issues that impact all Canadians, and an opportunity to participate in school-wide events and develop strong character and citizenship.
As we gear up for October, we are excited to welcome the Calgary Bridge Club back to our community as well as have our first Healthy Hunger lunch and host a Family Dance!
Please read on for important information and upcoming dates.
Family Dance
The Falconridge Parent Council has been hard at work planning a fun opportunity for families for children 12 and under. On October 24, the Parent Council is excited to host a family dance from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the school gymnasium. The dance will be a cash only event with a small admission fee used to support the parent council and ultimately Falconridge Elementary. Please see the attached poster at the side for full details.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches are back!
Thank you to our School Council for organizing these great lunches for our students and raising some funds for our school! Our first fun lunch is from Panago and the dates are:
Tuesday October 29 – Kindergarten – Grade 2
Wednesday October 30 – Grades 3 – 6
Please log into your Healthy Hunger account and add your children’s names for Falconridge School. You will need to do this again every year even if you ordered food last year. Please ensure you choose the correct grade and teacher when registering your child, and then order lunches. The cutoff date for our first fun lunch is October 17 so make sure to login as soon as possible.

Getting Active on our way to School
Walking to school is a fantastic way to kick off the day! It not only allows students to enjoy fresh air and physical activity but also helps build a sense of community. Plus, walking reduces traffic congestion and enhances safety on our roads for everyone.
Mark your calendars on October 9, 2024 for International Walk to School Day! We encourage your school to participate and celebrate this special occasion. The latest issue of The Scoop newsletter is packed with articles and resources to help you launch walking initiatives in your community. Additionally, we’ve included an action plan with creative ideas on how your school can make the most of International Walk to School Day (or Week).
At Falconridge School, our grade 6 students have started the Active & Safe Routes to School project. As a part of this, the grade 6 classes are asking for parents and guardians to complete the Family Travel Survey . This survey will give us important insights into how students travel to and from school, and any challenges they might be facing along the way.
The feedback will help Ever Active Schools to support the school’s efforts to improve travel safety and make it easier for all students.
Student Attendance
Regular attendance in an important factor in success in school. Frequent lateness and absence results in missed learning opportunities, and disrupts the rhythms of the classroom. If your child will be late or absent, please call the school attendance line. Late students come to the office to check in, so we can keep accurate attendance. We know that a number of barriers can result in lateness and absence. If your child misses school often, we will reach out to see how we can support you and child to help them attend school more regularly. As a reminder, classes begin at 8:30 am Monday-Friday. Students should be in classrooms prior to this so that they are there for morning routines and to maximize learning time.
