Welcome

We are taking this opportunity to inform you that there will be a Therapy Dog in our school on most Fridays to assist with emotional regulation, motivation, engagement and classroom community building. She will primarily be in the main office, however, will have access to the entire school except for kitchen areas.

 

Heidi, a Therapy Dog, is a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever.  She loves swimming in the river, going for walks and hiking, meeting new people, chasing sticks and balls, napping, other dogs and spending time with her family.

 

The Calgary Board of Education is committed to providing inclusive services and access for all students and employees.  This Therapy Dog is registered and trained through a professional organization, Community Therapy Dog Society.  She also volunteers on the weekends with Alberta Health Services on Inpatient Units through their Pet Therapy program.

 

All students and staff will be instructed as to the proper protocols regarding Therapy and Service Dogs, and students will be reminded not to touch or interact with Heidi unless granted permission by Heidi’s handler, Mr. Hillas. She will use the Southeast field for washroom breaks and waste will be cleaned up immediately.

 

If there are any severe allergies to dogs, phobias to dogs or other concerns please reach out and all necessary precautions for staff and students will be taken.
